Top products for oily skin!

Many of us have combination to oily skin types. The extent of oiliness can vary depending on various factors such as skin type, weather conditions, humidity, hormonal imbalance, nutrition, stress, etc. No matter what the cause, it is desirable to not look like a melting pot as the day progresses. So, whether you have just an oily T-zone or all over oiliness, I hope some of my top picks help you keep the shine at bay.

Blue smokey eye – Wearable edition

I often find blue eyeshadow quite¬†difficult to work with, especially on skin tones similar to mine. So, this weekend I challenged myself to using blue and creating something wearable. I am very pleased with the end result, not only because I could now wear blue on my eyes but also because I used a palette that I’ve almost never used since purchasing it – The Urban Decay Vice 2 palette! I fell for the hype around this limited edition palette and ended up purchasing it but the colors (bare a few) never called out to me. So, it just sat in one corner of my makeup collection, completely ignored.. well, until now. Hoping to get more use out of this palette now. ūüôā

Urban Decay Naked-3 palette..

Today I am reviewing the much awaited/anticipated Urban Decay Naked 3 palette.. First off, I wasn’t planning on getting it since the palette was meant to feature pink-y or rose-y shades.. It was off my mind and then my darling hubby gifted it to me when I landed back in the States.. So, for sentimental reasons this palette will hang around in my makeup collection..

It came in this gorgeous Sephora gift box.. love the packaging!

The Naked 3 palette costs $52.00 USD and features 12 rose-hued neutrals with a dual ended brush and four Eyeshadow Primer Potion sample packettes ( Original, Sin, Eden and anti-aging)..

IMG_5687 copyIMG_5688 copyIMG_5689 copyIMG_5691 copy

Here’s what the palette looks like.. Packaging is very similar to the Naked2 palette – metallic tin but this time with some kind of scrunched pattern.. Tin metal casing is something I personally do not like.. It is of rose gold color highlighting the color theme of this palette..

The first 6 shades – Strange, Dust, Burnout, Limit, Buzz and Trick…

IMG_5707 copy

Strange is described as a pale neutral pink matte-satin.. On my skin tone, its almost a stark white… It makes for a decent matte highlight..

Dust is described as a pale metallic pink shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter.. This eyeshadow is true to its description.. Swatches poorly.. Will need to be used with an eyeshadow transformer to get better intensity..

Burnout¬†is described as a¬†light pinky-peach satin.. Its more a pale pink satin on me.. I don’t see any peach tones to it..

Limit is described as a light dusty rose matte.. This eyeshadow is true to its description.. Makes for a good blending shade on my skin tone..

Buzz is described as a metallic rose shimmer w/silver micro-glitter.. true to its description..

Trick is described as a light metallic pinky-copper shimmer w/tonal micro-sparkle.. true to its description.. This is a tricky shadow to swatch.. However, it layers up well on the eyes..

The next 6 shades РNooner, Liar, Factory, Mugshot, Darkside and Blackheart..

IMG_5708 copy

Nooner¬†is described as a¬†medium pinky-brown matte.. Comes out more purple-gray on me… Works as a crease color for my skin tone..

Liar is described as a medium metallic mauve shimmer.. true to its description..

Factory is described as a pinky-brown satin.. true to its description..

Mugshot is described as a metallic taupe shimmer w/slight pink shift.. true to its description..

Darkside is described as a deep taupe-mauve satin.. Looks more Taupe-gray on my skin..

Blackheart is described as a smoky black matte w/rosy red micro-sparkle.. true to its description..

Overall, it‚Äôs an OK palette filled with eyeshadows that are highly pigmented for the most part (except for Dust and Trick), blendable and soft… On my warm skintone, these shades kind of clash and even though they look different in the pan, when I blend them out, they kind of lose their individuality and blend together to create a pink-y look – which I quite dislike.. Maybe I just need to play around more with this palette.. For me personally, I need shades from other palettes to kind of ground these rose gold shades.. If you have a cool undertone in your skin, this palette may be worth trying..

Also, for travel, I cannot think of just taking this palette with me.. I would only get looks that are quite similar to each other (on my skin tone anyway).. Let’s see whats next¬†in store for the¬†Urban Decay Naked series..

Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks!

Here’s my relatively small collection of the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks..

IMG_4045 copy

I have reviewed the Urban Decay revolution lipstick in ‘ F-bomb’.. You can find the full review at http://beautylashes19.com/2013/10/05/urban-decay-revolution-in-f-bomb/.. Since then, my love for these have grown and I have included 5 other shades to my collection.. ūüôā

These are really creamy and moisturizing.. and I really love the color range & the pigmentation on these.. My favorites include Strip (the perfect nude lipstick for me), Manic (good every day color) and Shame (my favorite for winter)! I have noticed that the lighter shades have a shorter wear time ( 3-4 hours) than the deeper shades which last almost all day.. Certain shades such as Strip & Protest are exclusive to Urban Decay’ website.. All the other 20 shades are available at Sephora.com

Urban Decay Naked-2 palette..

After the big success with Naked original palette, UD came out with Naked 2 palette.. The packaging changed to a hard metal case with a hinged lid which is great to travel with.. This palette has a larger mirror than the original Naked palette and comes with a travel size lip Junkie lipgloss in ‘Naked’ and a dual-ended, cruelty-free Good Karma Shadow/Crease Brush.. basically, one end with a flat eyeshadow brush and the other end with a blending brush.. I don’t use this brush much since I own many other brushes that work way better.. I absolutely love the lip junkie lipglosses – I barely have any left in this travel size sample!

Similar to the original Naked palette, this palette contains 12 eyeshadows and costs the same.. $52 as of today! The price sure has gone up since I originally purchased it.. You get only three Matte eyeshadows (Foxy, Tease and Blackout).. The rest of the eyeshadows are either shimmery or glittery!

IMG_2982 copy

First thing I noticed is that most of these shades are cooler.. Secondly, most of these shades are either highlight shades or mid tone for my skin tone.. The only deeper shades for crease/outer corner are Snakebite and Busted apart from Blackout.. Also, UD repeated Half baked in this palette – which they could have completely replaced with a new shade.. Also, anybody into makeup usually already has one or many matte, black eyeshadows.. I feel UD could have done away with that – not that blackout is a bad matte black..

There is no good matte, blending shade in this palette (like naked/buck in Naked original palette).. Hence, I really feel that this palette lacks punch in terms of versatility.. There is only so much you can do with this compared to the original Naked palette..

Urban Decay Naked (original) palette…

Ever since I posted about the 20% off of Urban Decay, I have had a couple of requests for review on the Naked palettes.. So, here are my thoughts on the Naked original palette..

IMG_2951 copy

I remember how I fell in love with these colors.. saw the palette at Sephora store, played around swatching the colors and HAD to get it! ¬†The palette has a velvet brown covering on the outside with a cardboard casing.. Very sleek and great for travel.. It has a magnet to hold the top/lid in place….

IMG_2956 copy IMG_2960 copy

The palette is gorgeous with mostly warm shades – ranging from pinks to nudes to shimmery colors to browns to purples and finally greys/gunmetal.. Note that there are only 2 matte shades in this palette (Naked & Buck).. so if you are a gal who is drawn towards matte colors, this palette may not be for you.. If, however U do like or don’t mind using shimmery shades, this palette is great.. The eyeshadows are very smooth and finely milled..

The palette did come initially with a dual ended 24/7 eyeliner in Zero (black) & Whiskey (brown) and a mini primer potion.. It has since been replaced with a flat eyeshadow brush..

Overall, I do enjoy this palette.. My favorite shades are Naked, Buck, Half baked, Toasted, Hustle, Smog and Dark horse.. What I enjoy most about this palette is the versatility – you can create a simple every day look using Naked and Buck or create a bronze / purple / silver smokey eye… I love that I can carry one palette and achieve all kinds of looks with it.. This is one palette I travel with most frequently.. ūüôā

Next up is my review on Naked-2 palette.. ūüôā

Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in ‘F-Bomb’.. ;-)

I know I am kinda late in doing a review on this product but I have (and will be until early 2014) just been super busy writing/editing my dissertation.. I have had the lipstick for more than 2 months but haven’t had the time to review it!! Anyway, lets get to the product review..

This year Urban decay released a new formula of lipsticks called the ‘Revolution Lipstick’.. On one hand it was supposed to be creamy, hydrating and moisturizing on the lips while on the other hand it was supposed to be long lasting! That’s a combination unheard of.. Hence, a lot of buzz has surrounded this product since its launch in late summer this year.. and of course I was excited too! I checked swatches of the various colors (YES, 22 shades in all!!) and ordered ‘F-bomb’ off of sephora.com…

More information off of Sephora’s website – “Urban Decay‚Äôs Pigment Dispersion System‚ĄĘ gives Revolution Lipstick its super creamy texture, intense pigmentation, superior color dispersion, and extended wear. Maxi-Lip‚ĄĘ defines and hydrates lips while making them look plumper and fuller. And a nourishing blend of jojoba oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter and shea butter keeps lips super moisturized and cushiony soft.”

What blew me first off was the packaging.. The lipstick bullet is almost a pink-purple gold metal case with UD logo embossed on it.. Feels and looks quite luxurious.. The color of the lipstick is displayed at the bottom of the bullet..

IMG_1769 copy IMG_1770 copy IMG_1771 copy IMG_1772 copy

Now, for the color and formula.. ‘F-bomb’ is described as a “Classic Red” and of course I had to have it.. If you didn’t know, I have a weakness for red lip and nail products.. ūüėČ

I swatched the product first on my hand and then applied it onto my lips with a lip brush.. and boy, was it soft like a butter or not… It did not drag against my skin.. A single swipe is all I needed to get a full on color.. Wow.. never before have I felt a rich, pigmented lipstick feel so comforting on my dry lips.. The formula truly stands up to its claim.. It was long wearing with minimal touch ups throughout the day (stayed put for many hours).. I have not tried any of the lighter shades from the range and I am not sure if they have the same lasting power.. This lipstick formula is free of ¬†parabens, sulfates and phthalates.. ūüôā

IMG_1773 copy IMG_1774 copy IMG_1811 copy

Here are some images of the lipstick applied lightly with a lip brush.. The color is way more buildable that what appears in these pics if you enjoy a full on red lip look..

IMG_1813 copy IMG_1814 copy

The color range is also great with this formula.. you can choose from nude, fleshy tones to bright colors to dark, vampy colors.. There is something for everybody..¬†The only downside is the price – $22 for a single lipstick!! This is ofcourse cheaper than most high-end brands such as Tom ford, Illamasqua, Chanel, etc.. But, overall I feel the formula is worth trying – just get a shade you might reach for the most.. The hydration will amaze you for such a pigmented, long wearing lip product.. ūüôā
