Vegan, cruelty-free makeup – Madam Glam lipstick review

Vegan, cruelty-free makeup – Madam Glam lipstick review

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. It has been a while since I reviewed any product on my blog, but I have been trying some new products recently and wanted to share it with you all.

Madam Glam is a relatively new US based company and is known for their nail paints. So, a few months back, a representative from their company contacted me to see if I was interested in reviewing some of their products and of course I was excited to try vegan and cruelty free makeup! They sent me two of their lipsticks and here’s my thoughts on them. Please know that this blog post is NOT sponsored in any way!

I wanted berry/red toned lipsticks to suit my skin tone and I received the shades Sophisticated Wine (#38) and Le Rouge (#138). Their lipsticks contain Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter) which are all plant based ingredients! They have 17 lipstick shades (as of today) and come in shiny and matte finish. The packaging is quite simple and straight forward, nothing fancy. It’s a twist up black velvety lipstick case with the brand name on the cap and the shade name on the bottom of the lipstick. The cap does not have the harsh clicking sound on closing but does slow down to close in a subtle way (which I prefer). The lipstick bullet is quite compact which saves space in my makeup bag.

And here are some swatches on the back of my hand.

Sophisticated Wine is a beautiful pinkish berry shade that is appropriate for work/every day wear and can be flattering on a wide range of skin tones. Le Rouge, as the name suggests is a bright red (leaning towards orange red) and will suit light to medium skin tones. The swatch on their website does look darker than they are in person.

Both the lipsticks are moisturizing and creamy on application. You get instant pigment pay off with one swipe of the lipstick. The formula is also quite build-able. You can achieve lip looks ranging from a stained lip to a full-on pigmented lip (no natural lip coloring showing). The formula does not move around much and I did not have any issues with feathering around the lips. Throughout the day, the lipstick does wear off but leaves behind a stain (which I personally love). That being said, the stain is not drying on the lips. You know when some lipsticks wear off, they just tend to really dry out the lips.. well, this doesn’t do that!

It did not come off patchy either, it wore off pretty uniformly. However, you do have to touch-up after eating a meal though. The stain on its own is not enough to last the day (at least on my pigmented lips). So, I do re-apply after a meal which is true for most lipsticks.

Pictures: ‘Sophisticated Wine‘ on application and the wear off throughout the day (notice that the moisturizing effect/shine fades away but about 40-50% of the pigment stays put). Absolutely love this shade (on application and the stain that it leaves behind)!

Pictures: ‘Le Rouge‘ on application and the wear off throughout the day (notice that the moisturizing effect/shine fades away but about 40-50% of the pigment stays put). I am not crazy about this shade on application but love love the stain! 🙂

These lipsticks cost $15.95 and Madam Glam has been kind enough to share a 30% discount code for all my subscribers. $16 for a lipstick does sound expensive but then again the lipsticks do not contain any animal products and are cruelty free. Also, these lipsticks contain 4.5g of product in comparison with a traditional MAC lipstick containing 3g of lipstick for a higher price. So, these will last much longer.

So, if you are interested in checking some products from Madam Glam, don’t forget to use the link You can purchase their products from their website –

  • Vegan!
  • Cruelty-free!
  • Paraben-free
  • Decent wear time (4-5 hours without eating/sipping on a drink)
  • Leaves behind a stain
  • Moisturizing (for about 4 hours)
  • Smooth application
  • Good pigmentation (my experience is limited to these two shades)
  • Does not feather outside the lip line

  • Can settle into the lines of the lip
  • Can be a bit drying towards the end of the day (when the moisturizing effect wears off)
  • Slightly pricey
  • Transfers onto food and drinks
  • Old/Grandma’s lipstick smell (although it doesn’t have a scent once on the lips). I think this may be because they do not haven’t added any artificial fragrance to these lipsticks (which may be good in the long run).

Overall, I am very impressed with the lipsticks, especially considering its a new cosmetics company! I am looking forward to purchasing and testing more of their products.

Makeup Geek Haul..

Hey guys,

I am so excited to let you know that I have graduated! It’s such a relaxing feeling to finally finish one’s PhD.. My parents are here from India for my graduation and its been a very hectic but fantastic week..

However, I can’t wait to get back to regular blogging.. Missed it so much.. 🙂

Today I am bringing you a MakeupGeek (MUG) haul from 2013! Yup, its from 2013.. I always end up buying more things than I can write about! 😉

MUG is a company started by Marlena on YouTube.. You get not only her products on their website but also other brands such as NYX, MAC, etc..

Here’s what I got..

I ended up getting 14 eyeshadows, 3 lipsticks, 1 Z-palette and 2 pigments.. Posts for individual products will follow soon.. I hope you all are doing great! I’ll have another product post soon! There’s so many new products in my routine that I am loving! Can’t wait to share them with you all.. Take care..

MAC lipstick ‘ Diva’..

Here’s my review of the MAC lipstick ‘Diva’.. I think this is going to be one of lipsticks I’ll be drawn to this Fall.. Diva is a gorgeous deep red brown in a Matte finish.. MAC describes this shade as “Intense reddish-burgundy“..

IMG_1521 copy IMG_1522 copy IMG_1524 copy

The color intensity is great.. a single swipe is all you need to get a nice, rich color on your lips.. Diva is part of MAC’s permanent lipstick collection and costs $15 for 3g of product.. It comes in typical MAC black and silver packaging..

It goes on smooth and looks lovely, especially on pigmented lips.. and since it is a matte finish (although a bit creamier than most mattes), it has a good wear time.. Also, it leaves behind a stain which is great as the day goes on.. So, you do need to be careful during application and stay within the natural lip lines..

Swatch : ‘Diva’ in indoor lighting.. looks more red than burgundy..

This shade in particular looks great on tan skin tones.. I hope you try it out.. Have a great rest of the week! 🙂

MAKE UP FOR EVER (MUFE) Rouge Artist Intense Lipsticks..

MUFE makes quite a few different lipsticks such as Rouge artist natural and Rouge artist Intense.. However, I absolutely love the MUFE Rouge artist Intense formula! Look no further if you want a highly pigmented lipstick that lasts long on your lips.. You will be blown away by the amount of pigment in these lipsticks.. It’s a gorgeous lipstick formula that packs punch in a single swipe.. They are available in 3 different finishes (matte, pearly and satin) and there’s a whooping 50 shades to choose from – ranging from pale nudes to black! So there’s something for everybody! These are paraben free and cost $20 USD each at Sephora..

I own four of these..

Packaging : The lipsticks are packaged in a classy black and silver bullet.. with MUFE logo on the cap.. and a label with corresponding lipstick color, number of the lipstick, kind of formula, etc at the base.. I store these upside down on my lipstick rack since the colored labels make it very convenient to pick the right color..

L to R : # 25 satin Caramel, # 26 satin Brown beige, # 42 satin vermilion red and # Mat 7 matte bordeaux

Top row : # 26 satin Brown beige and Mat 7 matte bordeaux

Bottom row : # 25 satin Caramel and # 42 satin vermilion red

Of these, my absolute favorite is Mat 7.. It looks beautiful against my skin tone and is a classic berry-wine color..

These lipsticks can be on the drying side for the lips but I think that’s one of the reason they last so long on the lips.. I would highly recommend moisturizing the lips with a hydrating lip balm before applying these lipsticks..

MAC Viva glam I lipstick..

MAC Viva Glam I lipstick was the first Viva Glam lipstick launched by MAC way back in 1994.. I was less than 10 years old then!! Since then, MAC has launched 5 others so far.. The best feature of these Viva glam lipsticks is that the entire amount goes into charity (MAC AIDS fund) to support men, women and children dealing with HIV and AIDS… I personally feel its a great thought and initiative… One more reason to buy these lipsticks and not feel guilty!!

IMG_1691 copy

Viva glam I is a beautiful deep blue-based red color that would be flattering on most skin tones.. It has a matte finish and looks gorgeous on the lips.. It costs $15.00 USD for 3g of product.. It is extremely pigmented and lasts long on the lips.. I absolutely adore this color..

All the Viva glam lipsticks are packaged in this black and red bullet unlike the regular MAC lipsticks which are packaged in black and silver..

Inglot haul part 2

Hey All,

Happy Easter to all those who celebrate it.. I hope you all had a great weekend.. I thought of continuing with my Inglot purchases..

Here’s some other products I purchased during my recent Inglot haul..

IMG_4997 copy

AMC Cream Concealer in # 70

This concealer has a very creamy consistency and retails for USD $10.00.. They have 8 shades to choose from including a green corrector.. this was the shade closest to my skin tone (NC 40-42 in MAC)…  I have been using this as an under eye concealer.. It stays put ok for some time if I set it with powder but it does crease on me.. I would not recommend it for blemishes since this has a very creamy consistency and can easily slide off the face especially for oily-combination skin gals..

Freedom system lipsticks (L to R) : #39, #61 and #60 on top row; #63, #83, #49 and #88 on bottom row.

#63 had a dent from travelling.. 🙁

These lipstick pans retail for USD $5.00 each and are currently housed in one of my UNII palettes. I wanted three other colors that were out of stock. I have placed an online order for them and should have them soon.. 🙂

Here are some swatches:

IMG_5045 copy    IMG_5046 copy

These pictures are taken in broad daylight.. One can appreciate the smooth texture of these lipsticks from these pictures.. The top swatch for each color is intense and the bottom swatch is with a lighter hand..

IMG_5043 copy IMG_5044 copy

These pictures are in indoor light.. The top swatch for each color is intense and the bottom swatch is with a lighter hand..

The lipsticks are creamy and are highly pigmented.. The application is really smooth and these last on the lips for a long time which can be extended with a lip primer underneath.. They last about 4-6 hours on me depending on the color of the lipstick.. In general, the darker colors tend to last longer and almost leave a stain on the lips.. These colors mask my pigmented lips very well.. Overall, very happy with my purchase..

The only drawback I see others talking about is carrying one of them to work.. I just saved some of the plastic cases these came in and use those to carry one or two of these for retouch.. I use the Sigma L05 lip brush to apply these..

I am down with a cold.. Hate being sick, esp over the weekend.. Hope to feel better soon.. 🙂

P.S. Please bear in mind that the color might show up differently on different skintones, esp considering the pigmentation on one’s lips..
